AzNA Committee Descriptions

Archives Committee

This committee records the ongoing history of the association, which includes reviewing, organizing, and storing minutes, newsletters, communications, and pictures. Meetings are monthly.

 

Continuing Education Approval Panels

Six different panels review continuing education applications to ensure that approved programs meet the established criteria, which ensures quality continuing education programs for nurses in our state. Each panel meets 4 times a year, and the meetings are held locally throughout the state. More Information.

 

Continuing Education Provider Approval Panel
This subcommittee of the Continuing Education Steering Committee reviews provider approval applications. Meetings are held when an application has been received, approximately four times each year. More Information.

Convention/Symposium Planning Committee
The Committee plans for the biennial convention (in the odd years) and symposium (in the even years), which are held in the fall. The committee meets for about 9 months prior to the event as needed.

Finance Committee
The Finance Committee ensures the fiscal integrity of the association by standardizing financial operations and recommending budget and money management strategies to the Board of Directors. The committee meets quarterly.

Public Policy Committee
The Public Policy Committee reviews proposed legislation and other issues of concern in accordance with the AzNA Public Policy Agenda. The Committee makes policy recommendations to the Executive Policy Team.


Arizona Nurses Foundation Council of Trustees (Appointed)
The Arizona Nurses Foundation (AzNF) is a non-profit organization founded in 1998 to improve health care in Arizona through charitable, educational and scientific activities. AzNF annually awards scholarships to individuals entering the profession and nurses advancing their formal education. Meetings are quarterly.

Political Action Committee
The Political Action Committee endorses and contributes to candidates for public office in Arizona who have clearly demonstrated support for the nursing community. The PAC communicates by email and conference call as needed.

Chapter Positions
For nurses who are interested in being involved on a more local level or related to a clinical specialty, chapter positions are available. Contact your chapter for more information.

Elected Positions
Elected positions include the Appointments/Nominations Committee Members, Bylaws Committee Members, and AzNA Members who are Delegates at the ANA Membership Assembly. Elections are held biennially, prior to the convention.

Board of Directors (Elected)
The Board of Directors reports and is accountable to the AzNA membership. The board responsibilities are listed in detail within the bylaws and include governing the association, establishing policies and procedures, ensuring adequate resources, selecting and evaluating the executive director, determining and monitoring programs and services, and ensuring the fiscal security of the association. Board meetings are approximately every six weeks. Members of the Board sit on other committees and have other non-committee responsibilities.

Appointments/Nominations Committee (Elected)
This committee develops a process that identifies volunteers interested in serving on committees, make recommendations to the board to fill committee needs, develop the slate of nominations to elected positions. The committee consists of three (3) members elected by the membership. The committee meets every 2 - 4 weeks for the 9 months prior to convention.

Bylaws Committee (Elected)
This committee interprets the Bylaws; receives, prepares, and submits to membership proposed amendments to the Bylaws; reviews Bylaws of a group that applies to AzNA for chapter status; reviews Bylaws of chapters upon changes in qualifications or responsibilities in their Bylaws; and reviews actions of the Board of Directors to validate continued function within parameters of these Bylaws. This committee consists of five (5) members. The secretary of the board is liaison to this committee. Typically, the committee meets 3 - 4 times prior to convention.
