Governor’s Budget Proposal: Increase Provider Fees
Sponsor: No bill written yet
AzNA Position: SUPPORT
The budget Governor Brewer has proposed to the Legislature included a 3% provider rate increase. This does not include hospitals.
Negotiations are now underway between the Governor’s office and legislators to come to an agreement on a budget for FY2014. The final budget will be written using the “road map” from the Governor, the only document that the public has seen. But legislators will write the actual budget, assign it a number and present it publicly after most of the negotiations have been completed.
Write to your legislators, urging them to include this item in the budget. Write to Governor Brewer thanking her for including a provider fee increase in her proposal.
- The increase will help alleviate the strain on providers, including Nurse Practitioners who have experienced cuts of up to 15% over the past 12 months. Because of these cuts, some providers have had to reduce their staffs by up 10%. It is estimated that over 1000 positions for caregivers have been lost. The 3% increase will help relieve the providers’ financial situation and maintain stability and capacity within the statewide system.
- The increase will help prevent more layoffs, saving precious jobs in communities.
- With funding for providers for the seriously mentally ill who are not eligible for AHCCCCS restored, much suffering as well as cost shifting to local hospitals, emergency rooms, police and fire emergency services, county jails and state prisons can be ended.
