The Convention theme is Recognize, Reflect and Rise. Presentations will recognize the great work nurses have done in the past year, reflect on what we have learned and what it means for nursing, and rise out of this challenge towards the future. Friday is the AzNA Membership Meeting and Saturday features three keynote speakers and panel presentations. Exhibits and poster presentations are on Saturday.

Friday features ANA President Ernest Grant and the AzNA Membership Meeting
Saturday begins with breakfast, exhibits and posters followed by motivating presentations.  Don't miss the Awards presentations lunch and Networking Happy Hour to celebrate being together again!

Sara Reynolds is the head nurses in charge of the intensive care unit treating coronavirus patients and was featured in the New York Times documentary "Death, Through a Nurse's Eyes"

 

 

Keynote - Reflect: What Can We Learn and Connect with Our Purpose

Keith A. Frey, MD, MBA

Chief Physician Executive, Southwest Division, Dignity Health/CommonSpirit Health

Keith A. Frey is a physician executive, academic leader and proven transformational leader of professional teams within complex healthcare systems. Dr. Frey is a former Professor and Chair of Family Medicine at Mayo Clinic Arizona., as well as their first Chief Medical Information Officer. He has over thirty five years’ experience as a primary care physician, educator, mentor and researcher. Dr. Frey’s career has also included prominent leadership roles at Duke University, Providence Health, and the University of Washington.  Dr. Frey is currently the Chief Physician Executive for CommonSpirit Health (Dignity Health), Southwest Division (Arizona and Nevada), a position he has held since 2013. His responsibilities include driving clinical excellence, superior patient experiences, academic integration and physician leadership development. Additionally, he leads the teams focused on professional fulfillment and burnout prevention for the 25,000 physicians at CommonSpirit Health.

COVID-19 Protocol & Guidelines:

AzNA has received inquiries from both registrants for and those considering attending out 2021 AzNA Convention and Membership Meeting as it relates to COVID-19 and delivering the program in person.

Your safety and the safety of our members, attendees, staff and community is paramount. As such, AzNA has been carefully watching the evolving recommendations for in-person gatherings and events. We are actively working with Wild Horse Pass Hotel & Casino and monitoring updates from the CDC, leadership of the Gila River Indian Community where the venue is located, as well as the state of Arizona, on safety protocols and precautions.

As many are aware, rates of infection and hospitalization due to COVID-19 Delta variant have dramatically increased.

As such, and to be responsible partners, we highly encourage attendees of our live event be fully vaccinated against COVID-19.


For those unable to attend given the above recommendation, the event is being recorded and all membership meeting and convention sessions will be available as on-demand video offerings beginning the week following the event. Select poster presentations will also be available virtually.

Key elements to keep in mind:

  • Mask mandates are in place on the Gila River Indian Community properties. All attendees will be required to wear masks at all times, unless actively eating or drinking.
  • Social distancing practices will be in place throughout the venue. AzNA will be working with staff of the venue to configure room setup to achieve this added level of protection.
  • Hand hygiene is of the utmost importance. There will be hand sanitizer stations positioned throughout the venue.
  • Breakfast and lunch options will be a served buffet setup where venue staff will be serving. The member appreciation dinner will be plated and delivered to seated attendees.

If you or someone in your household has tested positive for COVID-19 within two weeks prior to the event, PLEASE DO NOT ATTEND.

We are hopeful that as more get vaccinated we all will be able to move beyond this latest surge, and that our Convention and Membership Meeting will be a safe and enjoyable experience.

We will continue monitoring all guidance to ensure we deliver a safe experience and will keep passing information along as we press forward.

 

Awards

One of the greatest honors is to be recognized by peers and experts for the outstanding quality of work and contributions that are made. The Arizona Nurses Association provides this opportunity for such recognition at the 2021 Convention.

  • The Rory Hays Advocacy Award is presented to an AzNA member for significant contributions to nursing practice and health policy through political and legislative activity.
  • The Florence Nightingale Practice Award is presented to an AzNA member who has demonstrated professional career commitment in the area(s) of quality, caring, service, dedication or innovation.
  • The Marla Weston Leadership Award is presented to an AzNA member for significant contributions to nursing practice and policy through leadership that embodies the ability to hear and listen to wide ranging needs and ideas and foster collaboration among multiple stakeholders to bring about solutions that advance the nursing profession or promote the health of Arizonans.
  • AzNA Life Membership Award is presented to an AzNA member who exemplifies dedication to the nursing profession and the work of AzNA. Life members pay no dues.
There are so many outstanding nurses to be recognized for their commitment. Please take a few minutes to nominate a nurse that deserves this recognition.

Posters

Poster presentations will begin at 8 a.m. on Saturday.   Contact hours are available upon completion of evaluation.  Poster categories include research, evidence based practice and practice innovation/improvement.

We expect over 300 staff nurses, educators, nurse leaders, managers, nursing students, a wide variety!  Your participation provides direct interaction with the participants during breaks and meals.

Continuing Education:

The 2021 Convention provides up to 11 contact hours over two days (Friday: 3.5, Saturday: up to 7.5 including poster presentations).

The Arizona Nurses Association is accredited as a provider of continuing nursing professional development by the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC)Commission on Accreditation.

Conference Goal: Provide a forum for nurses from all specialties and settings to discuss contemporary nursing issues and trends.
Target audience: Registered and student nurses
Participants must attend the entire event and complete an evaluation to receive contact hours.
