What is the AzNA PAC

The AzNA PAC is an organization whose members have contributed money to the PAC. It is overseen by a fifteen member Board of Trustees elected by the PAC membership. AzNA PAC endorses candidates for the AZ legislature based upon the principles of the AzNA Public Policy Agenda.

The Arizona Nurses Association Political Action Committee:

  • Raises money to educate nurses about politics.
  • Raises money to contribute to selected campaigns. No AzNA dues are used for campaign contributions.
  • Conducts educational programs for nurses.
  • Develops and distributes questionnaires to candidates for the state legislature.
  • Interviews candidates running for election to the state legislature.
  • Evaluates candidates for endorsement based on interviews, questionnaire responses and voting records of incumbents.
  • Organizes nurse volunteers to work on campaigns.
  • Hosts timely “meet the candidate” receptions at AzNA functions.
  • Publishes a list of Endorsed Candidates for primary and general elections.

Lobbying and Political Action have different Goals.

  • Lobbying is the work of persuading an elected official to vote a particular way. The AzNA Public Policy Committee and Lobbyist fulfill this mission for AzNA.
  • Political Action is the work of electing an official sympathetic to a particular philosophy. This is the mission of the AzNA PAC.

Can the AzNA PAC Support Federal Candidates?

The AzNA PAC cannot support federal candidates. It can only support elections for state-based candidates.

Federal candidates from Arizona can be considered for endorsement by the American Nurses Association Political Action Committee (ANA PAC).
