With the news of the measles outbreak spreading, this has been a busy week at the AzNA offices. We've been working to compile measles outbreak information relevant to nurses. You can find it on our home page.
Robin Schaeffer, Executive Director, was interviewed by KJZZ at their studios in Tempe (Robin's portion of the interview starts at the 3:50 mark). Mark Brodie, from The Show, asked Robin questions about how nurses protect themselves from these kinds of highly contagious diseases, what Arizonans should do if they're concerned, and what nurses are seeing in hospitals when it comes to measles in Arizona.
Robin was also interviewed by Angela Gonzalez at the Phoenix Business Journal regarding what measles looks like, what to do if you think you have the measles, how to avoid the disease and other health concerns related to the measles outbreak.
However, measles wasn't the only thing happening at the offices this week.
On Wedensday morning, Robin recorded a PSA for the flu that you may hear on KTAR in the month of February. For a sneak peek listen, click here. She also met with Joey Ridenour to get an update on the Arizona State Board of Nursing as well as enjoying a drive down to Tucson and back to meet at a small invitation-only round table with the U.S. Secretary of the Department of Labor, the Honorable Thomas E. Perez, to discuss Health Workforce Issues in the Latino Community.
Debby Wood, Office Manager, has been scouring the valley to secure a location for AzNA’s Convention, watch for an announcement in the next month.
Wendy Schulz, Communications Manager, has been working on the beginning stages for the next Arizona Nurse. The February edition should be in your mailbox this week!
Our newest staff member, Debbie Blanchard, Administrative Assistant, is beginning to get a feel for working at our front desk. She has been involved in approving over 60 hours of Continuing Nursing Education Contact Hours. For just some of the programs available to nurses, see the AzNA Continuing Education Events Calendar.
The AzNA Board of Directors meets again next Friday. One topic of discussion will be the AzNA Mission Statement. Have you filled out this short one-question survey to help them out?
As always, the AzNA offices are here to help in any way we can. Please let us know of any questions or concerns you have.
