Nurses have invested their lives in their careers, all of which can be threatened by a single malpractice lawsuit or Board of Nursing complaint. Key findings included:
- $210,513 average malpractice claim cost, up from $201,670 in the 2015 report
- More than half of plaintiffs allege improper care or treatment, unchanged since the 2011 report
- 21.8% of malpractice claims occur in patients’ homes, an increase from 8.9% in the 2011 report
- $5,330 average license defense cost, a 58.9% increase since the 2011 report
