AzNA: Gov. Hobbs Takes Action to Protect Arizona Workers from Heat Risk

Posted By Administration, Friday, May 23, 2025

Governor Hobbs signed an Executive Order to protect Arizonans from heat risk in the workplace. The Executive Order directs the ICA’s Arizona Division of Occupational Safety and Health (ADOSH) to form a Workplace Heat Safety Task Force. Composed of industry leaders, worker representatives, and occupational safety and health experts, the Task Force will be responsible for drafting and recommending heat guidelines for employers before the end of the year. This work will build on the ICA’s Heat Stress State Emphasis Program (SEP) launched in July 2023, which was created to reduce heat-related illnesses and injuries in the workplace through inspections, training, and compliance assistance.

AzNA Member, Pat VanMaanen, MS, BSN, RN  will be a part of this Task Force. VanMaanen is the chair of the AzNA Health and Climate Workgroup.

Educational Events and Research: Sleep Research Study for Night Shift Nurses

Posted By Madi Moyer, Friday, May 23, 2025
Updated: Thursday, May 22, 2025

Do you have trouble falling/staying asleep OR staying awake when you need to?

Sleep and alertness problems are extremely common among people who work night shifts, yet very little research has focused on non-medication treatments. This research study is focused on developing a non-medication treatment for night shift nursing staff who have trouble with sleep or alertness. Eligible participants are any currently employed nursing staff (including nurses, CNAs, etc) living in the United States who work night shifts regularly and have difficulty sleeping or staying awake.

The study will last between 6.5-7 months, and you will be given individual sleep treatment over telehealth. You can participate entirely from home, and we will schedule meetings at times that work for you. If you complete all study assessments, you will receive $210 as compensation for your time. See the attached flyer for study information, and please distribute it to anyone who you think might be interested.

You can take the screening survey and learn more at: www.shaidlab.com/nurses

Please let us know if you have any questions!
