AzNA: Newly Appointed AzNA Vice President

Posted By Madi Moyer, Friday, January 28, 2022
Updated: Wednesday, January 26, 2022

At the January board meeting, the AzNA Board of Directors was tasked with selecting a candidate to complete the remainder of the current term for the Vice President position. The Board was thrilled to see so many highly qualified and engaged members submit a bio and consent to serve in this role. While the choice was not easy, we are pleased to announce that Dr. LeAnne Prenovost was chosen for this role.

Dr. Prenovost has been an active member of AzNA for 15 years, serving as Chair of the Bylaws Committee, President and Treasurer in the Nurse Educator Special Interest Chapter, and most recently President of the Central Arizona Chapter. The AzNA Vice President position is responsible for serving as Board Liaison to the Nominations Committee, and Chair of the Convention Planning Committee and other ad hoc committees formed throughout the year.

We are confident that LeAnne will continue her legacy of engagement and enthusiasm by serving our members in this new role. Congratulations LeAnne!

Education Events and Research: Volunteer with the Justa Center!

Posted By Administration, Thursday, January 27, 2022

Justa Center is a special place for the elderly persons experiencing homelessness in Phoenix. This population is rapidly increasing yearly. It is a day center where support and resources are provided to help these individuals navigate their circumstances and improve their lives. The center is located near to the Human Services Campus where the homeless are provided sleep shelter, medical care, psycho-social support and meals.

The mission of Justa Center is to provide the elderly (55+) a safe, compassionate and respectful environment while obtaining a pathway to housing.
Justa Center was initiated by the Reverend Scott Ritchey in 2006. He saw a need for helping these vulnerable individuals. Last year the center provided assistance to 1,238 seniors; 671 new-to-center, 32% first-time experiencing homelessness, approximately 125 persons in the center daily, 206 achieved housing, and 7,026 home visits by the center’s Ambassadors.

The center includes a Nurses Clinic in which basic nursing care is provided. Volunteer RNs and nursing students serve the individuals for a variety of needs, such as first-aid, providing over-the-counter medications, bandages, blood pressure and blood sugar checks, health education and compassionate listening.  Janice Bovee, MSN, APRN, is the nursing supervisor of the center and states “I love serving this population”.

You are invited to join the nursing team as a volunteer. The hours are from 0700-1200.  The center is open daily, including weekends.  RN volunteers usually donate 5 hours weekly, however, anytime is greatly appreciated.  If interested, please contact Janice; Janice@JustaCenter.org.
