ANA: New Campaign Launched for Black History Month: Nurses You Should Know

Posted By Debby Wood, Wednesday, February 10, 2021
The Nurses You Should Know Project, is a collaborative campaign with ANA and several other nursing organizations, designed to raise awareness to the contributions of nurses of color in the nursing profession and healthcare at large. The project is a year-round social media initiative, launching in Black History Month 2021 and coordinating relevant nurses stories related to Asian Pacific Heritage Month (May), Hispanic Heritage Month (Sept - Oct), and Native American Heritage Month (October).
The project goal is to make visible the role of nurses of color (past and present) in shaping professional nursing and healthcare outcomes. Amplifying the contributions of nurses of color not only improves representation and inclusion, but also serves to demonstrate the critical role nurses have in speaking up and activating change. Follow Nurses You Should Know on LinkedIn, Instagram, Facebook, and @KnowNurses on Twitter will link to the Nurses You Should Know publication on Medium which will aggregate stories of nurses of color during the year.
Please complete this 1 minute survey from Nurses You Should Know and learn about upcoming days the nurses stories will be posted through our monthly calendar. To receive a calendar for you to coordinate with your agenda, themes and other campaigns of organizational relevance, sign up here .

ANA: Focus Group Volunteers Needed

Posted By Debby Wood, Friday, February 5, 2021
Updated: Monday, February 1, 2021
ANA launched a National Commission to help address racism within the nursing profession. The Commission is focused on:
• Advancing a national discussion on racism across the nursing profession and describe the impact of racism within nursing on patients/families/communities, the health care system, and colleagues.
• Explore and develop strategies to actively address issues of racism within nursing across the spectrum of practice, policy, education, and regulation.
Our Committee membership is inclusive of the ANA Enterprise and the broad spectrum of ethnic and minority nurses engaged in nursing practice in the U.S. In addition, subject matter experts (internal and external to nursing) are included to inform the scholarly work of the Commission and to provide additional perspective.
Volunteer Opportunity
To further inform our work, we would like to engage in an open dialogue with nurses to discuss your direct and indirect experiences of racism within the workplace as a nurse. We invite you to participate in a listening session to share your experiences during one of the following sessions in February. If you would like to participate, please email practice@ana.org with your desired session date and time.
