Advancing Climate Health in Arizona

How gas utilities used tobacco tactics

to avoid gas stove regulations

In 1970, federal public health researcher Dr. Carl Shypublished a paper showing that families exposed to nitrogen dioxide gas outside had higher rates of respiratory illness than those living in less polluted areas. The paper led to a meeting with America's gas industry, where he learned gas stoves emit nitrogen dioxide, and range hoods aren't strong enough to remove it.

So why did it take more than 50 years for Americans to discover the
danger of gas stoves?

What to do if you have a gas stove?

AzNA CC&H Workgroup Meeting

We presented on the CC&H Workgroup at the Student Nurses’ Organization of Arizona Annual Convention on October 28th. Thank you for having us! Hearing about what students are doing about climate change was so rewarding.  We are excited to help nursing students start working on climate change on their campuses. We are also interested in having students join our meetings, volunteer to help us with projects and increase our reach by highlighting climate issues and solutions.

The AzNA Climate Change and Health Workgroup meets on the second Tuesday of the month, our next meeting is, November 14th at 5:30 pm Join Us.
