Commentary: AZ GOP Delegation chose tax breaks for wealthy over clean energy jobs and Public Health

Our member, Paloma Greenwald, MA, BSN, RN, who also works for Elders Climate Action as a Program Manager for Health and Climate Initiatives, published an article in the Arizona Mirror about the federal HR-1 Reconciliation Bill, which recently passed by one vote in the House. She delves into the bill and highlights the number of health programs that will be cut, while providing tax cuts for billionaires and further increasing the national deficit. Read the article here.

Send a Letter to Your Senator: Oppose HR-1

The HR-1 Reconciliation bill (also known as the big beautiful bill) passed the House by one vote.

This sweeping legislation would gut Medicaid, slash food assistance, strip funding from Planned Parenthood, eliminate clean energy rules, regulations and programs, and hand billions in tax breaks to billionaires — all while ballooning the national debt by nearly $4 trillion.

Now it’s headed to the Senate, and we have the opportunity to stop it.

This is a dangerous bill. In Arizona, cuts to Medicaid could leave up to 500,000 people without health care coverage and eliminate thousands of health care jobs. Rural hospitals are at risk of closing. This is serious. Cuts to food programs for children and seniors to fund tax cuts for the wealthy don’t seem fair.

Act today: Click ‘sign in’ to send a letter to your Senators asking that they reject the “Big Beautiful Bill.”
