Educational Events and Research: Opportunity for PAID Participation in Research Study

Posted By Madi Moyer, Friday, November 12, 2021
Updated: Monday, November 8, 2021

Dr. Wilson, from the University of Arizona Mel and Enid Zuckerman College of Public Health, is asking for volunteers to participate in her study on asthma and respiratory viral infections among registered nurses.

Asthma is a risk to those who work in healthcare settings due to working with cleaning and disinfection chemicals. Occupational infections, such as respiratory viral infections, are also a risk. We want to use surveys and interviews to gauge registered nurses’ tolerable asthma and occupational infection risks in the workplace within the context of cleaning and disinfection practices, with the long-term goal of improving cleaning and disinfection practices to protect RN’s health. An Institutional Review Board responsible for human subjects research at The University of Arizona reviewed this research project and found it to be acceptable, according to applicable state and federal regulations and University policies designed to protect the rights and welfare of participants in research.

There will be two opportunities to participate: an online survey and a follow-up one-on-one interview/focus group.
We are looking for participants who…

  • Have worked in healthcare for 1 year
  • Do not have physician-diagnosed asthma

How to participate?
• Your feedback will be used to provide evidence for future studies aimed at improving strategies for protecting and promoting the health of RNs. Your feedback is crucial to making changes to address this health need.
• Please provide as little or as much feedback as you would like, as your responses are private, and you will not be personally identified. The survey should take approximately 30 minutes to complete.
• At the end of the survey, a separate link will be provided for you to give your contact information to receive compensation for your participation: a $45 Amazon gift card. This contact information will not be associated with your survey responses.
• If you are interested in a follow-up interview to gain feedback on the survey design and more information about your cleaning and disinfection practices, there will be an opportunity to check a box at the end of the survey indicating your interest. Participants in the interview will receive an additional $45 Amazon gift card.

Any questions can be sent to Dr. Amanda Wilson at amwilson2@arizona.edu or (520) 626-3615. Take the Survey.
