In January 2019, Ernest Grant, PhD, RN, FAAN, will become the first man to be president of the American Nurses Association. Though his election is historic, a nursing career wasn't originally on his radar. "In high school, I would have told you—without a doubt—I wanted to be an anesthesiologist and drive a 1968 green Cougar with a red interior. Don't ask me why," Grant laughs.Grant had the grades, but as the youngest of seven children to a single mother (Grant's father died when he was 5) in a rural North Carolina community, paying for medical school would have been extremely difficult. Diabetes Is Primary will address evidence-based, peer-reviewed clinical data and expert options on quality diabetes management. This program will offer information and tools needed to improve patient outcomes through usage of new clinical practices, treatment protocols and better patient engagement.  This program was developed by the national Primary Care Advisory Group for health care professionals, including primary care physicians, physician assistants, nurses, nurse practitioners, dietitians, pharmacists and other health care professionals providing care to patients living with or at-risk of developing diabetes.  Diabetes Is Primary will offer up to six (6) continuing education credits featuring the following topics: Standards of Medical Care in Diabetes,  Prediabetes and Type 2 Diabetes Prevention,  Psychosocial Care for People with Diabetes,  How to use the Type 2 Diabetes Treatment Algorithm,  Cardiovascular Risk and Treatment Options,  Tailoring Treatment to Reduce Disparities, and Obesity Management in Type 2 Diabetes.  Registration includes a one-year professional membership to the ADA.  Early Bird Registration rates end on 10/31/18  More information

AzNA: AzNA East Valley Chapter 30 Needs You!

East Valley Chapter 30 is currently looking for enthusiastic nurses interested in joining the East Valley Chapter 30 board! 

This is a great way to get involved in your professional organization and to learn about all the activities, events and more AzNA does for nurses in Arizona. The term of commitment is for 2 years beginning January 2019. If interested please complete a Biographical Sketch/Consent to Serve by October 31 for one of the following board positions:

 

President:

·       preside at all meetings and conduct them according to Robert’s Rules of Order;

·       serve as the official representative of AzNA Chapter 30 East Valley and as the spokesperson on matters of Chapter policy and positions;

·       communicate and share information regarding AzNA Chapter 30 East Valley activities, discuss means to encourage member involvement, and communicate with AzNA Board of Directors as needed.

 

Secretary:

·        maintain records of meetings to include minutes and record of attendance;

·        sign all official copies of minutes;

·        notify members of regular and special meetings of the membership; and

·        maintain the AzNA Chapter 30 Board of Directors Resource Manual.

 

Director of Membership:

·       maintain AzNA Chapter 30 East Valley membership list as provided by            AzNA;

·       promote ANA membership at nursing, SNAAz and student nurse organization events; and

·       support AzNA efforts toward increased membership.

 

Director of Education:

·       provide topics that support the professional and personal growth of members;

·       promote evidenced based practice and assist with continuing nurse education application process for chapter events; and

·       secure speakers and location for meetings.
