Lead and Copper Rule: Opportunities for Nursing Action

In Fall 2023, the Environmental Protection Agency proposed a plan to pursue the Biden administration’s priority of replacing all lead service lines in the next ten years. Nurses know that access to safe lead-free drinking water is essential for families to live healthy and productive lives, as there is no safe lead level. Communities across the country should be protected from exposure to lead and health care providers are a vital part of lead exposure prevention. This webinar aims to provide resources for the clinician and highlight areas for nursing advocacy and action.

Please see below for some additional resources provided by Yanna Lambrinidou PhD from the Campaign for Lead Free Water regarding water filters:

EPA has a helpful brochure on selecting the right dually certified lead-in-water filters. Filters certified under both NSF/ANSI Standard 53 (with a claim of lead reduction) and NSF/ANSI Standard 42, are made by companies that include:

* Pitcher-styleLARQBrita, and ZeroWater

* Faucet-mount filters: Brita, Pur, and Culligan

* Countertop connected to sink faucet systemsAquasanaStream, and WaterChef

* Refrigerator filtersKenmoreFrigidaire, and GE

* Travel bottle filters: LARQ, NalgeneLifeStraw
