Elected Positions

Elected positions include the Appointments/Nominations Committee Members, Bylaws Committee Members, and AzNA Members who are Delegates at the ANA Membership Assembly. Elections are held biennially, prior to the convention.

Board of Directors

The Board of Directors reports and is accountable to the AzNA membership. The board responsibilities are listed in detail within the bylaws and include governing the association, establishing policies and procedures, ensuring adequate resources, selecting and evaluating the executive director, determining and monitoring programs and services, and ensuring the fiscal security of the association. Board meetings are approximately every six weeks. Members of the Board sit on other committees and have other non-committee responsibilities.

Appointments/Nominations Committee

This committee develops a process that identifies volunteers interested in serving on committees, make recommendations to the board to fill committee needs, develop the slate of nominations to elected positions. The committee consists of five (5) members elected by the membership. The committee meets every 2 - 4 weeks for the 9 months prior to convention.

Bylaws Committee

This committee interprets the Bylaws; receives, prepares, and submits to membership proposed amendments to the Bylaws; reviews Bylaws of a group that applies to AzNA for chapter status; reviews Bylaws of chapters upon changes in qualifications or responsibilities in their Bylaws; and reviews actions of the Board of Directors to validate continued function within parameters of these Bylaws. This committee consists of five (5) members. The secretary of the board is liaison to this committee. Typically, the committee meets 3 - 4 times prior to convention.

ANA Membership Assembly Delegate

Per bylaws of the American Nurses Association (ANA), AzNA may send a specified number of representatives to the annual ANA Membership Assembly as representatives of our state nursing association at the national level. These delegates vote on issues brought to members by ANA, engage in discussion about initiatives and programs being supported by ANA and the constituent/state nursing associations, and participate in assembly business as needed.
